Mr Holidays Hotel Boracay

Reading blogs for me is still a must thing to do before deciding where to stay on my next travel or before finally hitting the "book now" button in various online hotel platforms or apps.  There is a possibility that some or majority of the photos of chosen accommodation from online platforms or apps and hotel websites are no longer updated or sometimes deceiving.  That's why looking at photos from blogs can give us the true picture, a peek of what's inside with bonus details about its pros and cons.

Without further ado, I posted here several photos of M.R. Holidays Hotel where me and my husband stayed during our recent visit in Boracay.  It is a two star beachfront hotel located at Station 1, where the long and wider stretch of finest and whitest sands of Boracay are found.  Its four-storey building is situated between the two big and luxurious resorts/hotels namely, Discovery Shores and Ambassador in Paradise.

Our room is located on the third floor.  Of course aside from the location which is more serene and not crowded unlike in Station 2, it is the rate and positive reviews that made me decide to book here.  I booked thru Agoda a Standard Room that costs us only around Php1,600 net per night inclusive of daily set breakfast for two.  Yes, I got a discounted rate since published rate for Standard Room during high season (October 15 to June 15) is Php3,000 per night.

Btw, this is the hallway going to our room.

Inside the room is one double bed, an air conditioning unit, hot and cold shower, cable tv, in room safe, closet, umbrella, bottled waters, towels and basic toiletries.  And for the pros and cons of staying in the hotel's Standard Room as reviewed by an OC girl or mom like me:

Pros:
  • Clean rooms, including hallways, no bad smell at all.  I'm very particular about this.  I would rather pay much higher than staying in a hotel with a bad smell.  Luckily, this hotel is cheap and clean at the same time.
  • Very friendly staff, they would offer to clean your room.
  • Air con and hot and cold shower are functioning well.
  • Complimentary breakfast is okay but with only few choices.
  • Cheap rate.
  • Location, location, and location.
  • Beach towels are available on the ground floor.
  • You can ask the staff to set beach bed for you and your bae.
  • You can leave your room keys at the front desk before heading to the beach to swim.  I find it somewhat irrational, but the advantage of being in a small hotel is the receptionist and other hotel staff already knew all the guests and their faces.  So there is no chance they could hand over your keys to other people I think.
  • There is a security guard during night time so we feel safe in a way.
Cons:
  • TV is small.
  • Wifi is weak inside the room unless you are near the door.
  • No refrigerator inside the room.  However, they have refrigerator in the front desk where you can place your drinks.
  • No coffee/tea maker.  I used to bring a few 3 in 1 coffee since I'm a coffee addict.  It is not applicable in this hotel.  Good thing, I could buy in a small eatery near the hotel coffee with hot water for only Php20.
  • No slippers, hair dryer, telephone, bedside table, desk, seating area and balcony inside the room.
  • No toothbrush and toothpaste which I already knew before I made my booking from reading blogs and reviews that's why we brought our own.
  • No comforter and bed sheet is thin.
  • Unlike other beachfront hotels, there is no entrance along the road.  When you take an eTrike or tricycle, the drop-off point is the alley beside Willy's Beach Hotel, and you need to walk on the sands which is quite long before reaching the hotel.  You shouldn't be wearing shoes especially during high tides.
  • A tiring 15 to 20 minutes walk going to Station 2.

We had our takeout foods on one of the tables and chairs outside the room.

The hotel doesn't have their own restaurant.  The complimentary breakfast was served in the near eatery.  Said eatery has an instagrammable spot where you can make a #breakfastbythebeach post.

Yes, I asked the front desk/hotel staff to set us beach beds but on the shaded part.  I'm morena and I don't want to get tanned.

It's just literally few steps from our hotel to this beautiful scenery.

Till next time! :)
